Very sad and unexpected news today of the death of legendary actor John Carradine. I had the pleasure of meeting the man some years ago during a film festival here in Austin, and he was a real class act. He'll be missed.

If you haven't tuned in to "The Shadow Hour" radio program on museumoftheweird.com yet, then you are missing out on one of the most interesting live radio shows on everything paranormal. I want to remind you to tune in tonight, 10:00pm Central Standard, as host Chris Walden will have a special show on real-life Vampires Among Us!
Go to www.museumoftheweird.com and click the link for The Shadow Hour, or go directly to it at:
http://www.shadowhour.com/
In the meantime, you can download and listen to previous episodes and also schedule a reminder for upcoming live broadcasts. If you've got a question for Chris or one of his guests, you can also call in (so tonight's your chance to speak to a real, live-- uh, I mean-- undead vampire)!

Breaking news! Could this be actual footage of "Champ," the alleged lake monster that inhabits Vermont's Lake Champlain? You be the judge.

For Immediate Release:
Museum of the Weird, Weirder Than Ever
Grand re-opening March 20th
AUSTIN, Texas - The Museum of the Weird in downtown Austin will be having its grand re-opening beginning Friday, March 20th, following more than a month of renovation.
This cabinet of curiosities has grown to about three times its original size when it was opened in the back of Lucky Lizard Curios & Gifts in 2007. Proprietors Steve and Veronica Busti created the museum in the back of their gift shop to keep the tradition of old time dime museums alive.
In addition to its collection of mummies, shrunken heads, giant live lizards and freak animals, the new museum will delve more into the paranormal, cryptozoology, and the unexplained, including a brand new Bigfoot exhibit (and soon to be hosting "Ghost Dinners").
Busti's constant search for new, strange things finally led to his collection outgrowing the old museum space. This, combined with the public's growing interest in the unusual, prompted the museum's expansion. This is good news for all families in search of a good roadside attraction, sideshow enthusiasts and of course all of the self-proclaimed "weirdos" out there.
The Museum of the Weird is located at 412 E. Sixth St., inside of Lucky Lizard Curios & Gifts. The cost is $3.00 for adults, $1.00 for kids under 12. Senior citizen, military and student discounts will be offered as well.

February 9, 2009
The Museum of the Weird begins major construction today, so the main part of it will be closed for about a week starting Monday, Feb. 9, 2009. We've had several people calling, saying they are in town visiting and were disappointed they wouldn't be able to see the museum. We had originally intended to shut the entire thing down, however, due to popular demand, we are offering two specials for people who still want to visit:
SPECIAL #1: You will still be able to see the front part of the museum for a small donation of $1. It's not much, but you will get a sneak peak of some of the exhibits we'll be adding. As always, it's completely free if you purchase a t-shirt or poster.
SPECIAL #2:
If you are local or will be staying in Austin for an extended period of time, or if you'll be back anytime in the future, we are selling non-expiring tickets at the current $3 admission price, good to go in now and to come back once more when the museum fully re-opens. This is a great deal, as you'll get two visits for only $3, and will save some money since, due to rising costs, our admission price will have a small increase once we re-open (don't worry, it'll still be under $5; we know people are on a budget in these tough times).
The good news is Lucky Lizard Curios & Gifts will still be open during the entire renovation, and we will be working day and night to get the rest of the "new and improved" Museum of the Weird back up and running as soon as possible! You won't be disappointed!

February 1, 2009
Today we have begun renovation on the all-new Museum of the Weird! We are adding dozens of new strange exhibits in the month of February, during which the museum may be closed for a couple of days (if you're planning on visiting in mid-February, please call ahead to confirm we'll be open-- 512-476-5493). Then in early March we are having a "Grand Re-opening" celebration, just in time for SXSW!
And that's just the beginning! Wait 'til you hear what else we have planned for 2009! Stay tuned, as the news will be coming faster as we get nearer to the party!

Happy New Year to all our customers and fans! We're happy to say that 2008 was our biggest and best year yet! We've made many new improvements to our retail location in Austin, and as some of you may have noticed, we've expanded the selection of products on our online store. Keep checking back, as we'll be adding new and amazing products every week!
The really exciting news is what we have in store for the Museum of the Weird, both here in our shop and our online website, museumoftheweird.com. Let's just say, you'll want to bookmark that page in 2009 and check it often. I don't want to say too much just yet (I like keeping you in suspense like that), but I think if you're a fan of "weird" you'll like what we have in store...
